You should contact your insurer to obtain authorisation beforehand. You will usually be given an authorisation code which you should bring with you.
After an assessment a report is sent to your GP and a copy to you. If for any reason you do not wish your GP to have a copy of the report please speak to me about this.
ADHD assessments and treatment
After an enquiry I will send you an ADHD screen with your consent. If this is positive screen then we will go ahead and organise an appointment. There is no cost for completing the screen.
ADHD diagnostic assessments take 2-3 hours and the current fee is £1100. If at all possible it is recommended that a parent attend the assessment or is available to provide information about childhood difficulties and functioning via a video-call. Obviously this will not be possible in all cases.
After the appointment a diagnostic report will be sent to your GP and a copy of the report sent to you. This will include a treatment plan.
If medication is recommended these are started during follow-up appointments. Initiation of treatment and stabilisation usually takes 3-5 appointments each costing £210 each. I will issue prescriptions. A pharmacy will charge for the medication and the cost varies but is usually in the region of £50-£70 per 28 days.
I will then ask your GP to continue prescribing under the NHS system under a shared care agreement.
At a initial appointment you will be asked about the main mental health difficulties you want help with. We will also discuss if there is any past mental health history, family history, a lifetime history including your childhood, alcohol and drug use, past medical history, personality, current medication and social history.
We will then discuss your current mental state and do some tests of your memory and thinking if needed.
We may also go through a structured assessment to confirm certain diagnoses
Towards the end of the appointment we discuss the diagnosis (if any) and make a treatment plan which may involve a prescription, an arrarngement to see you again, advice on lifestyle, referral to another mental health professional or discharge.
